Every park
has its age.

Aquafan and Oltremare sit right next to each other and couldn't be more different. Taking a five-year-old to Aquafan is a waste; taking a fourteen-year-old to Fiabilandia is a wasted day. Here's which one to choose.

No prices or opening hours here: they change every season. What stays true is who each park suits, how long it takes, and when it's open.

18 minutes · open almost all year

Italia in Miniatura

The best fit if your family spans different ages. Over 300 Italian monuments in scale genuinely interest grandparents too, while kids get the monorail, the water battle at Castel Sismondo, the rapids of the Vecchia Segheria, and the Scuola Guida driving school (ages 6-12, minimum 110 cm).

You'll need 4-5 hours. It's the park with the longest season on the Riviera: from 21 March to 6 January. Dogs enter free, on a leash.

Good to know: at Castel Sismondo and the Vecchia Segheria you really get wet. Bring a change of clothes even if it's not meant to be a "water day".

24 minutes · from April to January

Oltremare

The park for children from about 2-3 to 10-11 years old. No thrill rides here: the dolphin lagoon, birds of prey in flight, parrots, the trail on human evolution, and the large water play area of the Isola di Ulisse.

The park suggests a visit of 4-6 hours. Packed lunches are allowed, with a shaded picnic area. Pets can enter on a leash.

Good to know: a thrill-seeking teenager will get bored here.

24 minutes · summer only

Aquafan

Teens and adults. The big attractions — Kamikaze, Black Hole, Extreme River, Speedriul — require guests to be 12 or over, or taller than 1.40 m. For the very youngest there are three pools with a maximum depth of 60 cm, but that's little compared to Oltremare or Atlantica.

A full day out. Open from early June to early September. Picnics allowed, but no glass; pets not allowed, not even small ones.

35 minutes · from April to November

Mirabilandia

Italy's biggest, and the most all-round. Its heart is the roller coasters — Katun, iSpeed, Divertical — so it's mainly for teens and adults. But Nickelodeon Land (PAW Patrol, SpongeBob) is a genuine area for little ones, not just a token gesture.

You'll need a full day, no question about it. The water park Mirabeach is attached but has a separate ticket and is open only in summer.

Good to know: many of the headline attractions have height limits around 130-140 cm. Checking them before you queue up saves the tears.

25 minutes · from March to November, plus Christmas

Fiabilandia

Children from 2 to 10 years old. The castle of Mago Merlino, the Lago del Sogno, the Miniera d'Oro del West, the Apache village. There are coasters, but they're family coasters, not roller coasters.

4-5 hours are enough. It's also the park best connected without a car: the Metromare has a stop right behind the park.

17 minutes · summer only

Atlantica, in Cesenatico

The closest, and the manageable alternative to Aquafan. It has both the big slides and shallow pools with mini-slides for the very youngest, so it also works for children under five. Six pools and over a thousand meters of slides.

Reopened in June 2026 after a complete refurbishment, with a new wellness area and beach volleyball courts. Owned by the Municipality of Cesenatico.

34 minutes · indoors

Acquario di Cattolica

The answer to a rainy day, or one that's too hot to spend outdoors. It's the biggest aquarium on the Adriatic and is mostly indoors: sharks, penguins, jellyfish, otters, reptiles.

Takes 2-4 hours: pairs well with half a day at the beach. You can bring a packed lunch; there are gazebos and tables in the green area.

40 minutes · from March

Safari Ravenna

You visit from inside your car. Four kilometers of route among lions, giraffes, zebras and hippos, plus a walking area with an aquarium and play areas. Works very well with very young children or anyone who doesn't walk much.

The park suggests at least 3 hours. Those without a car can rent one of the park's electric cars or ride the guided little train.

Good to know: last entry is well before closing time. Arriving early isn't a suggestion, it's a requirement.

The combo ticket is valid
for the whole season

Four parks — Aquafan, Oltremare, Italia in Miniatura and Acquario di Cattolica — belong to the same circuit and sell combo tickets in pairs.

The detail almost nobody takes advantage of: combo tickets can be used on different days too, and remain valid for the whole season, until 6 January 2027.

For those staying here a week, that means buying just one ticket and using it on two separate days of the stay — maybe one at the start and one at the end of the holiday, with the sea in between. It's an advantage only those staying locally get.

Note: Mirabilandia is not part of this circuit. Its only official combo is with Mirabeach, on consecutive days. Fiabilandia, Atlantica and Safari Ravenna have no combos with the others.

Questions we get asked

Where's best to stay for Aquafan?

Aquafan and Oltremare are in Riccione, practically right at the A14 exit. From Casa Plac it's 30.8 km and 24 minutes by car, almost all on the motorway, entering at the Valle del Rubicone exit, which is 6 minutes from the house.

Staying in Riccione costs more, and in August parking is a problem. From here you set off in the morning, spend the day at the park, and in the evening return to where you sleep without music under the window. Ask if it's available.

And for Mirabilandia?

Mirabilandia is in Savio di Ravenna: 30.1 km and 35 minutes from Casa Plac, on the main road. The park calls for a full day, so it's best to set off early.

It can be done without a car: train to Lido di Savio-Lido di Classe and then a connecting shuttle — but from here to the station you still need nine minutes by car.

I have children aged 4 and 9: which park?

With those two ages together, Italia in Miniatura is the most balanced choice: it's 18 minutes away, takes half a day, and leaves neither of them out.

If you want water, Atlantica in Cesenatico (17 minutes) suits both of them better than Aquafan, which cuts out the best attractions for under-12s. Oltremare works great for the younger one and still holds up for the older one.

What do we do if it rains?

The Acquario di Cattolica is mostly indoors and takes 2-4 hours: it's the most straightforward answer. Italia in Miniatura also stays open in the rain, though some outdoor attractions may close.

Alternatively, 23 minutes away is Rimini with the Museo della Città, the Domus del Chirurgo and the Fellini Museum, all indoors. Towns and villages

With a kitchen for dinner, a washing machine for the swimsuits, and parking right by the house so you can set off again the next morning.
